Overview
So, you have everything set up. What's next? Obviously, you'll want to test it out!
For example, let's say you have a page set up for selling a product and you give that link to your Partners (aka Affiliates, Influencers, etc. - people you will be paying for traffic and Conversions they bring).
You would want to see if a Purchase, aka your Conversion, is actually recorded in Everflow.
To test a conversion, regardless of the conversion method, requires two things:
Everflow Offer/Partner Tracking Link or Advertiser Test Link
Clean browser free from any previous cookies and cache
Note: You don’t even have to leave the Offer page to access testing links and view reporting!
How to Generate Everflow Tracking Link for Testing
There are two types of links you can use for tracking conversions:
Offer Tracking Link: This is the actual link you'll share with your partners (like TikTok creators or sources of organic traffic) to promote your offer (the product you're selling, a form to be filled out, etc.).
Advertiser Test Link: This link is specifically designed for testing purposes. It allows your Advertiser (for example, an agency running Offers for you) to test the offer without affecting any associated payouts or revenue.
When you want to have your Offer promoted or you want to test it yourself, you'll provide the Offer Tracking Link to your partners.
However, if you need your advertiser to test the Offer for you, you'll give them the Advertiser Test Link instead. This way, their testing won't impact your actual conversions, reporting or earnings.
Option 1: Testing Yourself With The Offer Tracking Link
Once again, this is a perfect link if you are testing your very own Offer yourself!
Go to Offers, select the Offer you need to test conversions for, and click "Get Tracking Link."
Select a Partner for your test (it can be your affiliate or anyone getting payouts). Copy the Redirect or Direct Link depending on your conversion tracking setup:
Direct Link - for Javascript SDK
Redirect Link - for Server Postback
Grab a normal link (highlighted in blue) and paste it in your browser to start.
Option 2: Let The Advertiser Do the Testing with the Advertiser Test Link
If you're not testing the Offer yourself and want your Advertiser to test it:
Click the "Advertiser Test Link" button on the bottom right.
Open "Additional Parameters" and check "Ignore Revenue and Payout."
Copy and send the link to your Advertiser for testing.
Note: The Advertiser Test Link is for testing only. Don't share it with partners.
Testing Your Conversion Tracking
Open a new browser window with no history, and clear cookies/cache. (Many of our clients use Google Incognito, Safari Private, and/or Firefox browsers for testing.)
Paste the link from the previous steps and make a purchase, fill out the form, etc. (whatever makes your actions count as a Conversion).
Tip: Note the transaction ID to easily locate the click and conversion later. Or simply remember the time when you made a “Conversion.”
Important Notes:
The test MUST BE DONE using the Everflow tracking link. (Just copy and paste the tracking link from Everflow! You can’t simply go to your website, buy a product, and see a conversion later in Everflow.)
If using Offer Tracking Link, the Partner MUST be approved for the Offer. (For example: You are running a TikTok offer. Thus, all your TikTok creators must have permission to actually see what the Offer is and run it. On the other hand, your Facebook partners might need to be limited to their FB offers. To test, select your TikTok creator from the list, not the FB one.)
Any targeting set on the Offer can affect click and/or conversion tracking. Ensure that requirements are met. (Example: If you set your Offer only to be run in the US but you are located in Europe, your test won’t work. That conversion will be rejected.)
Best Place to View Your Tested Conversions
For example: You ran the test by making a Purchase of an action figure (again, just an example, your Conversion can be even an Email Signup). Now what?
Now you need to see whether the test was successful!
Navigate to the hamburger menu on your right. Click on the one that corresponds with your tested Offer.
Click "Conversion Report." You will see Click/Conversion for your specific Offer if your Test was successful.
Through our Conversion Report you can see Approved, Invalid, Pending, and Rejected Conversions. Select the All status filter to see conversions with any status.
Approved - Your test went great!
Invalid - Conversion is missing crucial data that tied it to your Offer or Partner. Make sure your scripts are placed correctly on your website!
Pending - (A lot of reasons. For example: the Offer reached its cap of Conversions - try checking your Offer settings. Also, the Conversion might have been blocked by the Fraud tool you’re using, etc.)
Rejected - Your Conversion does not meet the parameters you set (For example: You are targeting the US but testing in Europe..)
Read more about Conversion Reports HERE.
To get more insights: Click the hamburger menu and navigate to "View Flowchart."
There, you will be able to get the full story of your Click > Conversion to understand the behavior of your Customer better.
Obviously, that will work best for Optimizing your traffic later on. Tests don't require this much in-depth information since you are the Customer for this test.
Troubleshooting
Scenario 1
If your Conversion is showing as Rejected or Invalid:
You can see the reason by checking the "Error Message" column in the Conversion Report.
Please enable the Error Message column if not visible, by clicking on the hamburger menu next to the filter > Column Customization > Error Message.
Alternatively, click the hamburger menu next to the conversion and select "Conversion Details" to view the error message.
Click here for our Conversions Error Code Reference Guide with explanations of common errors.
Scenario 2
If you don't see your test conversion show up in the report at all, it's possible the initial click was invalidated before conversion tracking could occur. To check for invalid clicks:
Go back to the Offer page.
In the "Stats" box on the General tab, click "View Report"
Check the "Invalid Clicks" section of the report
If any invalid clicks are listed, you will see the detailed breakdown of the reasons “why.”
Refer to our guide on Understanding Invalid Clicks for more information.
